Military convoy in Hungary
According to the Ministry of Defence’s information to MTI, a military convoy will march through Hungary early this week. The convoy will pass through the counties of Hajdú-Bihar and Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg, telex.hu reports.
The military operation will last for 3 days, from Monday to Wednesday.
The Defence Forces ask residents to approach military vehicles, if necessary, “with due caution and respect for traffic rules”. The size and speed of military vehicles, as well as the length and progress of convoys, are different from those encountered in everyday road traffic.
No civilian vehicles are allowed to drive among the military vehicles in the closed column!
To this end, escort vehicles at the front and rear of the convoy ensure the safe passage of the convoy. “We ask everyone who drives in the vicinity of the military convoy to take into account the current road, weather and visibility conditions”, stresses the Ministry of Defence.
The Ministry of Defence added that, in compliance with the relevant legislation, they try to mitigate the public disturbance as much as they can. The Ministry concludes its statement by saying that “we thank residents for their understanding and patience”.
Weekend convoy from Bakony to Debrecen
Vehicles of the Hungarian Defence Forces marched from the Bakony to the vicinity of Debrecen over the weekend, writes index.hu. The convoy had the following route: Újdörögd- Nyirád- Devecser- Veszprém -Székesfehérvár- Hajdúhadház. The Hungarian Defence Forces asked the public to practise caution this time as well.
In 2019, several military vehicles were involved in accidents in Hungary.
On one occasion, 6 vehicles collided and a total of 6 people were injured. One soldier died on the spot and two casualties were taken to hospital by ambulance helicopters. In 2021, a similar incident occurred in Germany. As the military convoy moves slowly, civilian drivers often try to overtake which can lead to accidents.
Please note that it is illegal to overtake unless you are on a multi-lane road or a motorway.
